"Are You Providing Your Child The Right Stimulation To Activate, Develop, And Strengthen Their Fast Growing Minds?


During the first 3 years of the toddler’s life, the brain’s neuron (which are essentially the main building blocks of the brain) creates and strengthen connections rapidly with other neurons. These connections are called also known as synapses.

As the child continues to grow, these connections will either become stronger or they will be “trimmed” away. This process of trimming away the underutilized connection is called synapse pruning. 



Here’s where it gets important. Normally, the brain will prune away many connections selectively on its own. It automatically chooses which to keep and which to “cut away”. Some parts of the child’s brain will be more developed, while other parts will be less.

The good news is that scientists have discovered that if brain development is done right and all parts of the brain is activated, the brain will be able to retain most of the important synapses, resulting in your child developing more holistically!


Unfortunately...Most Brain Development Programmes Do Not Fully Activate Your Child's Brain! Some Brain Development Programmes Might Even Hold Your Child Back! 


Problem 1: Focus On Right Brain Training

Recently there has been an increase in right brain development centres. The “theory” goes that right-braining training help children to learn fast, process a large amount of information as well as be able to think faster.

What the research says: Recent research findings has shown that right brain training alone is not sufficient. In order to activate the whole brain, the two brain hemispheres have to be connected. This involves using a variety of activities that activates that both hemispheres of the brain.


Problem 2: Use Of 2-Dimensional Manipulatives

They rely solely on 2-dimensional materials like flashcards to develop a child’s brain. While flash cards can be effective with the right approach, it only activates a certain aspect of the brain.

What the research says: The different brain regions are each associated with a particular set of abilities or behaviours which can be connected to different regions at different times in a hierarchical order, thus enabling the brain to carry out complex behaviours. Thus it’s important to use a multitude of purposeful activities to activate different brain regions.


Problem 3: Engaging A Limited Number Of Senses With Each Activity

They do not use multi-sensory approach that engages all 5 senses. Instead they just focus on activities that stimulates 2 or 3 senses. at a time. 

What the research says: During the first three years of life, children will experience the world in a more complete way (through the 5 senses). Infants are attracted to new sights, sounds and touch. it’s important to help the child to develop through experiential learning. From birth, babies explore their surroundings and learn through play.


Problem 4:  Using Activities That Are Not Transferable To Kindergarten and Primary School

The problem with many of the activities is that they are focused on developing the brain but have very little application outside the brain development school. Many children who developed their brains early on are unable to apply the skills to their school work easily.  

What the research says: According to Dr Catherine Cox, head and principal psychologist of Psychology Service at KK Women's and Children's Hospital, "A child may improve on the brain training tasks, but it may not necessarily lead to improved academic performance for the child in a formal school context.

Problem 5:  Only Focusing On The Child's Mental Development

The problem with a standard brain development program is they tend to focus entirely on the child's cognitive abilities. In the process, they might neglect the development of a child’s social-emotional development. 

What the research says: Studies have shown that a child’s intellectual development is intricately bound to his emotional development. By putting emphasis on nurturing a child’s social-emotional skills, it will greatly impact your child’s future success in school and life.

Not only will he master interpersonal skills that will help him be appreciated and respected among his peers, it will also help him cultivate a positive attitude and a passion towards learning – all of which are key traits of highly successful people in the world.

Parents’ love is most important in helping their infants learn about the world around them. John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth had long documented the studies on early attachment since the early 1960s.

They demonstrated the importance of the presence of a caregiver when an infant is exploring his/her surroundings.

We believe that the warm and secure relationship between a young child and the parent plays an important role in positive brain development.

We design activities  to hold the interest of the children’s curious minds and are set to improve their concentration skills.

The tempo of every class is well paced to ensure that children are not stressed by speed, and yet at the same time, they would not be bored with any particular activity.

In order to develop the brain holistically, we activate the right hemisphere and thereafter connect it to the left hemisphere of the children’s brains using languages.

Children learn to communicate their feelings and needs from a young age, thus minimising frustrations and misunderstandings.

During our weekly lessons, your child will learn various expressions and situations of daily through role-play games and songs.

When they can clearly express themselves and read other people’s expressions, they have better awareness of social relationships. Thus nurturing them to be confident.


Techniques

We cover a wide variety of activities to captivate your child’s attention throughout the lesson time, to give better concentration. This includes everything from Photographic Memory, Perfect Pitch, High-speed data processing and speedy calculation.

Dre used to have very low attention span. He could not sit through a 5 minutes storybook prior to joining Happy Train. Hannah first joined Happy Train when she was about 2 years old and has continued with the programme till date. From the first lesson, Hannah was engaged throughout the 60 minutes lesson, with songs, flash cards, memory games, hands-on motor skills games and letters/number games.

Here’s what we’ll be sharing:

  • The 3 different states of mind your child must go through in order to learn effectively. According to Dr Christina Lim-Ratnam, Senior Lecturer at NIE’s Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Group, what determines the child’s ability to develop fast is whether these 3 states are present during learning. During the Immersion Class, we will walk you through how you can easily bring your child through these 3 stages whenever you want to have a learning session with your child.

  • Why  touch is a fundamental and important source of security to a child. If you deprive an infant of touch, the body and brain will literally stop growing in a healthy manner. In other words, touch is an infant’s lifeline to security, attachment and reassurance.  However, when it comes to touch, there’s a specific technique and exercise you can use to express a feeling of security to your child (the usual way of carrying alone is much less effective). Important to do this 3-min exercise often at home.

  • A unique deep breathing activity that will facilitate the development of speech. This pre-phonic training activity exercises the muscles around the mouth, which is crucial for precise diction and pronunciation. The more you do this activity with your child, the faster she perfects her articulation. (From my experience as a phonics trainer, this is the difference between a child who can speak well at a very early age and a late developer who can only speak properly at 3-4 years old).

  • A technique that will activate and strengthen that part of the brain responsible for language, social and communication skills development. Babies mainly develop language, social and communications skill through interactions with their parents. However one of the greatest problems parents make is not being able to communicate with the child in the language they are able to understand. Some parents use very complex sentence structure while others use “baby-talk”, thinking that this is how babies think (Huge mistake!). As a result, these babies tend to lag behind in this area of development.

  • The truth about Flash Cards that brain development schools don't tell you about. They can be an effective learning tool, but only if you use it the right way. For example, one of the most important thing to consider is the pace which you flash the cards. This is the reason why some parents have huge success with Flash Cards but others find it a waste of time. The benefits of flash cards are clear: It’s one of the best ways to give input for language and a wide range of vocabulary. Discover how to use it the right way!

  • The best way to nurture your child to be fully bilingual in both English and Mandarin (without having to sacrifice one language at the expense of the other). People are usually stronger in one language over the other. But it IS possible to be good in both. By continuously stimulating and activating the parts of the brain responsible for language learning, they won’t have any difficulty with either language.

  • How to develop critical thinking skills without drill and practice.  Many parents (and even teachers) think that the way to develop reasoning abilities is to practice and drill difficult and abstract math questions. What they don't realize is that at the early stage of your child’s cognitive development, they need to introduce a wide variety of stimuli that will aid them in making decisions and solving problems. We'll show you how Happy Train trains children as young as 3 months old in critical thinking in a fun and enjoyable way! 

  • The best way to activate parts of the brain that is responsible for spatial awareness for your 0-3 years old toddlers. Did you know that one of the determining factors that enables the child to develop and master critical thinking is actually spatial awareness? fMRI scanning shows that people with strong critical thinking skills have very strong neuron connections in the brain.

  • How to develop your child’s innate musical abilities. According to Scientific Journal Psychology of Music by Ichionkai Music School in Japan, every child has the potential to develop Perfect Pitch (also known as Absolute Pitch). The only condition: You must start a certain kind of music exercise before the child reaches 4 years old.  Once your child develops it, it will remain in him forever (whether he chooses to learn a musical instrument later on or not).

  • How to incorporate Sensory Plays into everyday lives. Sensory games that stimulate and develop the 5 senses will activate the part of the brain that helps babies to do things like reading and writing.  Sensory inputs are important elements needed to activate the brain and establish neuron connections.  

  • How to introduce new words and vocabulary every day. It’s very common for an eighteen-month old child to easily master 500 over words. Unfortunately, many parents don't know what is the right way to develop the child's use of the language and end up trying to drill the wrong words in the wrong order. We'll give you a preview of how you should train your child to recognize and use words.
